April 2025: Park Opening, Panguitch Snow, and a Chucky Prank

From the Verde Valley to the Park Opening

April 2 - A Saved Clipping on Happiness:

Mostly a quiet day, but I saved a clipping worth keeping: an article on happiness that offered 25 short rules for young people, promising a happier, less complicated life without demanding much time, energy, or money. A few of my favorites: "Don't buy things until you need them - store them at the store." "Focus on actions, not outcomes - don't try to 'learn to play the guitar'; instead, 'play the guitar for 20 minutes daily.'" "Don't wait until you have more free time - you may never have more free time." And "if you're not sure how to have fun, ask yourself what you did for fun when you were 10 years old." Good stuff, worth a re-read.

April 4 - Verde, Maylyn Softball:

Down in the Verde Valley. Maylyn's softball.

April 5 - Hanging With Joe and Mel:

Chores around the place, movies at their house.

April 6 - Supper at Missy's:

Cabbage buns at Missy's. Loading the truck for Panguitch.

The Drive Back to Panguitch

April 7 - Traveling to Panguitch:

Left the Verde Valley around 8 AM and arrived in Panguitch, Utah at Henries Hitching Post at around 4:30 PM their time. Got backed in and the trailer set up. Watched the championship game of March Madness.

April 8 - First Day at Henries:

Pulled wire to all the new pedestals and landed them. Moved power for site 26. Finished unloading our stuff from the pickup. Finished watching 1923.

April 9 - Day Number Two at Henries:

Did more electrical work today by hooking up power to the sign from the water tower, and remounting the lights on the front of the garage. Helped Ed with dropping trees and cleaning up.

April 10 - Park Cleanup:

Worked on cleanup around the upper part of the park. Trimmed the last trees. Moved the trailer to the front of the slab.

April 11 - Continuing Summer Prep:

We cleaned out the clubhouse, put all the chairs out for the Airbnbs, got the small tractors fueled and running, plus parked. Got the mower started and put out. Got all of the irrigation turned on.

April 12 - Continued Work for June Opening:

We are continuing with getting the park ready to open.

April 13 - Continued Work on Summer Preparations:

We continued the work of getting the park ready for the summer.

Opening Preparations and a Chucky Prank

April 14 - Chucky in the Pipe:

John and Tonya were here today. We moved the large pipe that Tonya wanted put into the front flower bed to the front of the park. Ed decided to play a joke on them by putting the small statue of Chucky inside of the pipe.

April 15 - Another Day of Work at the Park:

We continued preparing the park for opening today.

April 16 - Work at the Park Continues:

John and Tonya were in town, which made it so that Ed was distracted by John, and so the amount of work we were able to do was somewhat limited.

Snow, Easter, and the New Panel

April 17 - Snow in Panguitch:

Elizabeth and Bryan arrived here in Panguitch today. They were able to get set up before the snow began. We ended up going down to the Smokehouse for dinner before coming back and cuddling in our houses, because it was cold as all get-out.

April 18 - Snowy Cold Weather:

Ed gave us the day off today due to the cold temperatures as well as the snowfall from yesterday. Cindy and I went over and visited with Elizabeth and Bryan on their first day here in Panguitch.

April 19 - Cold Day Off: (Title only in the journal - a day the weather or the work spoke for itself.)

April 20 - Easter Sunday:

We had a pot-luck dinner for the park, with a fire after dinner in the fire pit outside of the clubhouse.

April 21 - Building Flower Boxes:

We spent the day working on cleaning up and moving the storage area down below. We finished out the day building a flower box by the office. We finished fairly early and came back to the house and watched some tube before going to bed.

April 22 - Electric Morning:

The switchover to the new panel was today. While the power company switched over on the pole, Ed and I moved the power for the clubhouse and our pedestal over to the new panel. Once completed with that, I cooked some steaks for lunch, then we watched some tube till bedtime.

April 23 - Another Workday at Henries: (Title only in the journal - a day the weather or the work spoke for itself.)

April 24 - More Outdoor Work at Henries: (Title only in the journal - a day the weather or the work spoke for itself.)

Drive-Ins, Car Shows, and Cold Wind

April 25 - Henrie's Drive In:

Afternoon outing to Henrie's Drive In, Panguitch. After work was done for the day, we hosted Bryan and Elizabeth to an enchilada dinner at our house. My sandals showed up from Cabela's and they were way too large, so we set them up to return. We did cleanup in the corner by the clubhouse, after finishing cleaning up the wood from John's old fence that we had brought over to the park. Cindy and I also cleaned up the leaves that were in the corner by our trailer and dumped them down below.

April 26 - Car Show in Richfield:

Rick and Linda invited us to join them at the car show for the day. It was decent weather for the show and we had a good time. I managed to get some pictures while there. Linda made it through the day, which is a big deal for her. The kidney failure plus the dialysis have taken a toll on her.

April 27 - Cold, Windy Weather:

The weather was cold and nasty, precluding us from really getting much work done outside.

April 28 - Cold, Windy Weather:

Another day of cold, windy weather.

April 29 - Cold, Windy Weather:

And yet another day of cold, windy weather.

April 30 - Much Better Weather:

The weather today was much better, allowing us to actually get something accomplished here at the park. I was able to get the ice machine up and going, with the leaks all stopped. We got a good start on doing the front flower garden area, so that it is just about landscaped. We will finish it, hopefully on Friday, when the rest of the red-colored rock shows up.

(No entries for April 1 and April 3 in the source. April 19, 23, and 24 carry only their titles in the journal.)
