Brush, Colorado Prewitt Reservoir June 2021
So we set out from Colorado Springs at around 8AM, having fueled the truck the night before. This was a fairly easy drive day for us going from Colorado Springs to Brush, Colorado where Prewitt Reservoir is found. We had good weather, not too hot and not windy, which helps to not get as fatigued driving. Our journey took us through the rangeland as well as farmland. Actually it was a very pleasant scenic drive.
Pulling into the Prewitt Reservoir, which is a Colorado State Wildlife Area(SWA) we were greeted with the lake surrounded by trees. This being a first come first serve area you just grab a spot that looks good to you to setup camp. The area is quite sandy, so some caution in where a person drives is a good idea. There were still quite a few folks at the lake on this Sunday afternoon when we arrived. Always good to see folks out enjoying nature instead of being on electronic devices.
Driving along the shoreline of the lake, we were finally delighted to find a small peninsula that went out into the lake that gave us some privacy and separation from other folks. So we pulled into that spot and set up the trailer, broke out some beers and had a drink. A nice cold beer is always a nice touch at the end of the travel day. Because of our fairly early arrival, I was able to get out and get some early evening photos and videos for our future memories. Chloe, as usual, enjoyed getting out and being able to range about and enjoy a some freedom after having been cooped up in the truck.
Access is granted to Colorado's SWA via a hunting and fishing license or an SWA permit. The permits can be purchased at anywhere that fishing licenses are sold as well as online. The wonderful thing about SWA's is that once you have purchased a permit or fishing/hunting license is that there is no charge for camping in these areas. This makes for a nice recreational opportunity for people to enjoy.
This was a fairly short stay for us, with only two nights, but still allowed us to enjoy the surrounding beauty of the reservoir. We were not here to do any fishing, but we did get in a few walks around the lake, allowing us to get some decent pictures as well as video of the area. The night before we left, we got to enjoy a thunderstorm with the accompanying lightning. It rained most of the night, so when we got up to break camp, everything was somewhat wet. However, the rain made everything feel so nice and clean.
So if you ever get the chance to go to Prewitt Reservoir, it is a very nice place to swing in and checkout. Having been there, we will definitely go back sometime in the future.
